AP Biology and Honors Anatomy students had a special visit from orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nick Avallone of St. Luke’s Orthopedics recently. While biology students tend to dissect animals like frogs to further their understanding of anatomy, this presentation took the assignment a step further, looking at a human leg. The live dissection was performed in front of about 125 students, with some invited to scrub in to the procedure.

Census Bureau representative Tom Zins talked about the U.S. Census during a Library Showcase.

U.S. History I and II students attended a Library Showcase, “The U.S. Census: Why It Matters,” to discuss the importance of the upcoming census. Led by Tom Zins from the U.S. Census Bureau, the presentation included information on the community benefits of an accurate and complete census, how it supports the ideas framed by the U.S. Constitution, and how it fits into government.

The GlamourGals Service Club had a busy February in honor of Valentine’s Day, visiting students in the special needs classes on Feb. 11 to make friends, swap Valentines, and give manicures. A dozen GlamourGals also left some love with 31 of their favorite Galentines at Warren Haven Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Pictured are the GlamourGals who visited Warren Haven: Jessica Kara, Aaliyah Khan, Sydney Smith, Abby Eller, Carly Roth, Ashley Cruz, Kristina Los-Chovanec, Kayla Ates, Ellie Higgins, Maddy Phillips, Eva Tirado, and Julia Fox.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, the Warren Hills Select Choir presented its annual Cabaret Night, performing songs from favorite movies and musical theatre productions. Song selections included classics like “Beauty School Dropout” from “Grease,” performed by Ian Higgins and “If I Were a Rich Man” from “Fiddler on the Roof,” performed by Gio Bucca. The concert was held in the cafeteria and sweet treats were served. Funds raised from admission went toward choral competition fees. Many of the students who performed will be featured in the upcoming Spring Musical, “Matilda,” April 2-4.
