RECOGNITIONS

Senior Nicole Kilhullen was honored by the Washington Rotary for her service to the community on January 29. She is active in and out of school, representing the Blue Streaks in Volleyball, among other activities. She was nominated for the recognition by Computer Science Teacher Daryl Detrick, as well as a guidance counselor and the school’s principal.

Warren Hills’ GirlsCodingWithGirls and Computer Science @WH was awarded a $500 New Jersey STEM Month mini grant. The school will use the money to purchase a set of Maqueen graphical programming robots to be used in the Digital Lending Library, at the disposal for high school computer science students teaching younger students about robotics and programming.

The Debate Team took home the title in the New Jersey State Bar Foundation Mock Trial County Competition on Monday, Jan. 27. The team defeated other local teams by successfully holding a practice court case.

The competition participants, listed by role, were:

Prosecution team: Michael Alfieri, Aaliyah Khan, Aidan McHenry, Julia Monico, and Daniel Pitsch

Defense team: Iyan Kariuki, Sam Lewis, Kayla Norton, Julia Teets, and Francie TenEyck

Jurors: Chris Casella, Danyal Khan, Yuliana Perenginets, and Thomas Finnegan

EVENTS

On January 31, members of the Warren Hills Student Council Executive Board spent the morning helping out at the non-profit Washington Nursery School in downtown Washington. They worked to develop bonds and acting as role models to kids in their community through engagement. High schoolers and pre-schoolers alike found the experience rewarding.

Executive board members include Meghan Dufner, Carlee Fisco, Emily Gilligan, Walker Heller, Jessica Howley, Heather Laffan, Kaitlyn Marsh. Jack Meyer, Emma Smith, Jacob Smith.
