EVENTS
Warren Hills’ “Stuff the Bus” food collection was a huge success. A joint endeavor between the Key Club, Student Council, FFA, and Streak Nation, students collected 1,612 items for the Washington Community Food Pantry.
On Dec. 13, computer science students participated in CodingwithKids. An astounding 120 3rd-6th grade students from 12 different school districts joined 40 amazing Warren Hills mentors for three hours of computational thinking activities. If wondering how much pizza 160 kids and teens can eat in three hours, they enjoyed 40 pizzas while they worked!
In time for the holidays, the Warren Hills Student Council ran a toy drive for local patients at Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown. On Tuesday, Dec. 17, they were able to donate 329 toys and $220 worth of gift cards for older patients thanks to contributions from students and staff.
CHORUS
The Select Choir took part at the annual Somerville Caroling Festival Dec. 13. They joined seven other schools to present classic carols to the public at the United Reformed Methodist Church in Somerville.
On Nov. 26th, Warren Hills Choir students traveled to Basking Ridge to attend the annual “Choralpalooza” event at Ridge High School. This special experience allows Warren Hills students to join singing powers with hundreds of other students from New Jersey high schools, and to enjoy a day of unity and singing.
Brandon Williams, PhD, from Rutgers University, was the guest clinician and offered students choral singing tools through master classes with each choir. Additional music activities promoted self-belief.
Performances were also on the schedule docket. Each school presented a solo act. Emma Kaiven entertained the audience on behalf of Warren Hills with a performance of “Astonishing” from the musical, “Little Women.” Warren Hills’ choir director Lauren Voight performed an operatic duet with the choir director from New Providence, Susan Kirkland.
Finally, the choruses came together to sing “Here’s Where I Stand” from the 2003 film, “Camp.” The performance featured soloists from each school. Gift Biyibioku represented Warren Hills. You can view the performance on Youtube and see Biyibioku, who is the third soloist, in the blue shirt.
