DASACC Launches Innovative Abuse Intervention Program to Address Domestic Violence in Warren County

DASACC (Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Crisis Center), a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, is proud to announce the introduction of its groundbreaking Abuse Intervention Program (AIP). This pioneering initiative marks a significant milestone in addressing domestic violence in Warren County, effectively bridging a critical gap in community services.

The Abuse Intervention Program (AIP) is a comprehensive program designed to provide individual or group counseling for individuals who have caused harm in their intimate partner relationships. Unlike any previous programs in the area, AIP employs a Risk, Needs, Responsivity (RNR) framework, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing underlying issues for those causing harm, regardless of barriers or co-occurring challenges.

AIP’s primary objectives include.  Enhancing participants’ ability to recognize and understand abusive behaviors and ultimately reducing future abusive behaviors.  The program recognizes that Warren County has lacked a similar intervention program for several years, and DASACC is committed to filling this crucial void in community services.  Key highlights of the Abuse Intervention Program (AIP) include:

  • Expertly Trained Staff: AIP staff are highly trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, ensuring clients receive the highest quality care.
  • Flexible Duration: AIP services do not impose a fixed duration on clients but emphasize successful completion based on individualized treatment goals.
  • The program’s flexibility allows clients to progress at their own pace, recognizing that genuine change takes time.
  • Focus on Key Themes: AIP centers around essential themes, including accountability, strengthened empathy, healthy communication, healthy core beliefs, intersectionality, personal change, and responsibility. It provides education on relationship skills, conflict management, the effects of domestic violence on families, positive parenting, and emotional coping skills.
  • Cultural Awareness: The program delves into the societal impact of domestic violence, addressing issues such as toxic masculinity and the intersectionality of marginalized populations involved in domestic violence incidents.
  • Dedicated Office Space: To ensure survivors’ and program participants’ safety and privacy, DASACC has established a separate office space exclusively for AIP services.

DASACC’s Executive Director, Isela Arras expressed her enthusiasm for the program, saying, “For more than 30 years, DASACC has been the only agency providing services to victims of interpersonal violence throughout the greater Warren County community.  With our AIP services, we want to extend that same compassion and commitment to the partners of victims of domestic violence with the hope of creating healthier Warren County families”.
