CSC Sets Auditions for Rent, Marvelous Wonderettes; Announces 2022-23 Artistic Internship Opportunities

The Centenary Stage Company is holding non-equity open auditions for the 2020 summer stock productions of “RENT” and “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” on Saturday, May 14 from noon to 8 p.m. in the Lackland Center on the Centenary campus. Video auditions will also be accepted.

Performers will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis and should prepare 16 to 32 bars of a contemporary/rock song. Singing and movement/dance is a priority. An accompanist will be provided.

“RENT” launches the season. Based on Puccini’s beloved opera “La Bohème,” “RENT” follows the ups and downs of a year in the life of a group of impoverished, artistic friends living in Manhattan’s East Village. The group’s dreams, losses, and love stories weave through the musical’s narration to paint a raw and emotional portrait of the gritty bohemian world of New York City in the late 1980s, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.

The summer season continues with the smash off–Broadway hit The Marvelous Wonderettes, a step back in time to a 1958 Senior Prom and a 1968 high school reunion. The musical features more than 30 classics from the 1950s and 60s.

“RENT” will open July 7 and run through July 17. “The Marvelous Wonderettes” will open July 28 and run thru Aug. 7, with performances Thursdays through Sundays at the Lackland Center. All roles are available. Shows will be directed by CSC’s Lea Antolini Lid and Jillian Petrie. CSC is seeking a diverse company and nontraditional casting will be considered.
