Charlie’s Thanksgiving Tale Involves A Hawk, Squirrel

Thanksgiving, a Holiday involving traveling to visit Family and Friends & a Holiday of EATING!I am wondering if this hawk might not have been surprised into a Wildlife version of the Thanksgiving spirit! Think of it, Dinner delivering itself. Talk about a fresh meal! NOTE:  These photos are from my archive; this incident took place 12-1-2012 down at Sea Girt, NJ.

In these photos. this hawk flies onto a tree branch after being frightened off my Aunt’s pool fence near the bird feeder. I am taking a photo of the hawk when I notice a squirrel walking toward the hawk on the very same branch! In one photo, the hawk doesn’t see the squirrel yet & squirrel hasn’t seen hawk! In the other photos, the hawk turns its head, notices squirrel and lets out a shriek, at which point, squirrel NOTICES hawk, chirps and spins around, almost running into another squirrel following him! The hawk flew off and the squirrels went down to my Aunt’s bird feeder by the pool fence, right where the hawk was sitting in the first place!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
