Charlie’s Pic Of The Week Is A Reflection Of The Moon

There is just something special, AND, I mean special, about Reflections off Water!!  Maybe, it is just me, BUT, I’m telling you, every single time, I encounter, a reflection off water, it triggers the ole, ‘Moth & Flame Syndrome’ I AM INSTANTLY ATTRACTED!!  I will reflect with you, pun intended, my thoughts on this, further in my article!!

In Charlie Fineran’s Photo of the week – Moon over the Delaware Water Gap, it was quite a surprise.

Actually, a double surprise, now that I think about it!! AND, really happened quite by accident!!  I am on my way home, passing through the Delaware Water Gap and just happened to stop at Resorts Overlook in PA, to get that one last visit before heading home.  It is twilight and I notice a full moon is just beginning to raise to the east!!  H’mmm, wonder if I can get a photo of the moon in the Water Gap!!??  Drive to Kittatinny Information Center, I’ll walk along the shoreline, wonder IF, the moon will be in the right position & wonder HOW LONG, it will be before it rises above Mount Minsi?  It is beginning to get pretty dark, I’ve walked as far as I can along the waterfront.  I have been focused on finding the moon, when I notice, half the river is like a mirror, a mirror giving a beautiful reflection of the Water Gap area.  Took some photos, gave up on the moon and just started to head back to my car, WHEN, noticed a small light glimmering, just a few feet off the shoreline, looked up AND, Photo of the Week, ‘Moon over the Gap’.”

Stated earlier, “Something special about reflections off water!”  Whether an OBVIOUS, grand view panorama, like our photo of the week, OR, a tiny puddle on a road, that just happens to be lined up perfectly, with your vision, creating a reflection, these moments always capture and hold my attention!  As I ‘reflect’ over the many times I have witnessed these reflections off water, I am beginning to surmise, it is the sum total of events, leading up to that unique instant of surprise discovery, that greatly enhances one’s attraction, followed up by actions leading to a nice photo!

Let us review our photo of the week’s story.  An observation of the moon, nothing too earth shattering, BUT, add a special location, A LOCATION that you just happen to be at, Hmmm, possibilities are starting to interact, I am beginning to connect the dots.  I am starting to totally alter, the game plan that was in play, beginning on a totally brand new course/mission!  (NOTE:  IMPORTANT OBSERVATION – dots must be connected followed by a changed course of action to keep the possibilities possible!)  Lucky or fortunate conditions, calm quite waters creating a mirror effect!!  Things in the right place at the right time & YOU THERE to witness it!!  All these unique different factors MUST be in play at the same time!!  Are you beginning to see my thoughts why these events are ‘SPECIAL’??

Many of my other experiences are literally instantaneous.  Coming across a puddle, on the trail, calm water off the trail and then trying to decipher what you are looking at and watching the image change as you shift your positions!  Can’t tell you the number of times in a car, observed, drove by, started to connect dots and then turned around to begin my unexpected new mini journey!

There is an album in my Flickr site dedicated to my many adventures observing ‘Reflections Off Water’.  Many of these sites are located in Warren County, many are not, however photos are all labeled (HINT) great places to visit!!  Looking at the photos, try to place yourselves in my shoes and see if  you notice any of the dots or multiple circumstances mentioned above scattered in each photo!  I think then, you may begin to appreciate each photo as a lucky set of fleeting special/unique circumstances!!
