Florence Kuipers Memorial Park & the Rockport Wildlife Management Area:
Nestled in the quiet hills of the Highlands Region, along the south western border of Hackettstown and continuing through Independence and Mansfield Townships, this almost 500-acre preserve offers residents a chance to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors. Whether hiking along the historic Morris Canal Towpath or exploring the many other trails situated throughout this woodland area, take time to breathe in the fresh air and get a beautiful close-up view of nature! This time of year, with no leaves on the trees, you will also be amazed at some of the panoramic views you will see from the trail!
Charlie’s Insider Tip: Seniors and non-hikers: park one car at the Harvey Street entrance and a second at the Grand Avenue parking area for an easy, one-mile walk along the flat tow path and then a short .2 mile downhill stroll to Grand Ave.
About Florence Kuipers: This park is named in honor of Florence Kuipers (1942-1999), an early member of the Warren County Morris Canal Committee and the Board of Recreation Commissioners. She envisioned a greenway across Warren County so the public could enjoy using the canal towpath as a trail.
