Charlie’s photo of the week shows the beauty of a sunset without even a glimpse of the sun!
I believe “Seeing Red at a Reverse Sunset” is a good title for the photo of the week. Usually, enjoying a Sunset Moment, means the viewer is looking out over a panorama, towards the setting sun, anticipating and enjoying the various colors splashed over that very panorama and sky!
Our Photo of the Week is the EXACT OPPOSITE!!
I had actually given up any hope of getting any photos of a sunset. I had been on site at Sunset Pointe in Hope for about 12 minutes and all that time the clouds were not cooperating. The sun was continually blocked, making the panorama just a shaded picture and view.
Even though the sun was always blocked during my visit, I always had a sense of its position, above the distant horizon, and was determined to remain where I was until it settled down below the horizon (call me an optimist!)
The moment of truth arrived. The sun was just above the horizon when, suddenly, a tiny, very slim horizontal slot, and ‘eye,’ if you will, began to slowly open, allowing a narrow beam of red light to blast out!! By PURE LUCK, I turned around, just in time to catch our photo of the week!
The photo is looking away from the sun, instead, looking at what the red sunrays are lighting up!! Everything the sunrays touched was RED!! I only had time to take a couple of photos and the ‘eye’ closed, returning the entire area back into a shaded picture.
We have all witnessed how the sun’s rays can highlight and tint view sheds, but I believe this is the only time I remember such an intense immersion and dominance of one color! I’m so glad I turned around!
Attached are some links to my Flickr site which show two sunsets from Sunset Pointe, located on Hope Great Meadows Road in Hope, along with a sunset from Youngs Island Road in Allamuchy. Read the articles for each album and view the various scenarios about sunset colors and lighting described earlier.
