Saturday March 4th 2023: It is about 1:00 pm and I decided to take a
ride, one of my “Looking for Stuff” and “Looking to see what I can see”
adventures. Actually, looking back in review, I did pretty good.
The action started out in Belvidere on Manunachunk Road, when I spotted
a hawk just off the road on a branch, by the time I turned around and
pulled over, he flew to another branch!! Get a couple of photos after
dodging a few interfering branches.
A little later I am on Upper Serepta Rd. when I catch sight of a
Pileated Woodpecker flying into the woods, I turn around and head down
Ledge Road and finally got a couple of semi clear photos, again dodging
a few branches.
Now I am on Serepta Rd., by a semi wild preserve, literally riding along
the guard rail looking for stuff, I notice a large object up in a tree,
Zoom in with the camera and it is a Turkey vulture, and he is eating
some animal he has lifted up there. This kind of took me by surprise, I
usually associate them as eating where they find food on the ground.
Maybe, because most of this area was wet and flooded, he decided for a
drier place to eat?
My last encounter was pretty neat, I had just turned onto Rt 46 heading
west, when my peripheral vision picked up some movement in the field
next to Triple Brook Cemetery, AN Eagle, feeding on a dead deer. Turned
around and jockeyed around, with several parking positions, for some
nice photos without scaring him off. I thought this might be a Golden
Eagle BUT after checking my photos I am reluctantly thinking this is a
full grown adolescent Bald Eagle?
Well by now it is after 4:00 pm and I am going to head home. Another great
day roaming around beautiful Warren County.
