Centenary University brought the excitement of TED Talks to its campus recently with the university’s first ever TEDx Talk, centering around the theme of truth.
TEDx brings locally-organized speaking events in the spirit of idea-sharing TED Talks to the regional stage. TED and TEDx’s mission is to spread worthy ideas through short, powerful talks.
Presentation topics asked whether it’s possible to really know what happened in history, the truth about classrooms and innovative educational spaces, theater and truth, and more.
Centenary’s program was produced through the efforts of Jonathan Lopes, Assistant Director of Experiential Learning, as well as Centenary faculty and theater students, and members of the local community. Tim Guella, Director of Social Media for Centenary’s Social Media Center of Expertise/#theVIBE, and Timothy Frederiks, Education Department chair, also helped to organize the event.
As a result of his experiences at the conference, Lopes now hopes to present an annual Tedx Talk at Centenary. “Assuming we are given a renewal license, Centenary will host an annual event with more speakers, student involvement, and outside funding,” he said.
The 80-minute program was simulcast on YouTube. The video can be viewed here.
