Centenary University Professor of History Breandán Mac Suibhne’s book, The End of Outrage: Post-Famine Adjustment in Rural Ireland (Oxford University Press, 2017), has won the coveted James S. Donnelly Sr. Award for Books on History and the Social Sciences, presented annually by the American Conference for Irish Studies. Mac Suibhne has taught at Centenary University since 2010. The book was previously named the Irish Nonfiction Book of the Year by The Irish Times. It tells the story of an informer who betrays the Molly Maguires, a secret society that protected the rural poor, in the wake of Ireland’s Great Famine.
