Early in September, the Southwest Branch of the Warren County Library, located at 404 Route 519 in Stewartsville, celebrated its Grand Opening with an official ribbon cutting, replacing the former Franklin Branch in Washington. The newest branch of the Warren County Library System has a lot to offer their patrons – of course, there are books, but there’s so much more too!
There’s a “café” to sit, read the newspaper, and sip your coffee. There are multiple computer stations for free internet access and research. There’s an outstanding children’s area featuring plenty of kid-friendly books, along with a play area, with a “diner,” a “grocery store,” and a “park.” There’s a Makerspace, for those who love to create. There are clubs and volunteer opportunities as well.
Pictured above is Lydia Akehurst, from Stewartsville, a senior library assistant, who also does book cataloging and children’s programming. Lydia is demonstrating the Fit Desk Bike, one of three in the facility, for those 13 years and older. On this fully customizable exercise bike, one can “take a seat…improve your health, all while enjoying a good book.” Outside the library, Lydia recently discovered the joy of film photography, and spends much of her spare time exploring the area with her Konica. She also divulged a desire to delve into music photography.
