Cathy Miller’s Person of the Week celebrates in song! Abilities of Northwest Jersey Inc. celebrated the grand opening of its new Phillipsburg location and PossAbilities Thrift Boutique on Saturday, September 15. Located at 1224 South Main Street, the expansive building also houses Abilities’ Branching Out Food Pantry, several state-of-the-art sensory rooms for their consumers, a kitchen, cafeteria, common areas and several offices. Besides the traditional ribbon cutting with Abilities’ Board members, local dignitaries, and Abilities’ staff, there was a 30 minute performance by the Abilities Choir under the direction of Patricia Evans, Music and Arts Developer. The choir is comprised of 33 consumers from both Washington, who have sang together since June, and Hackettstown, together since April. They performed several standards, many of which included audience participation. This was the first time the combined choir sang together for the public, and their excitement and joy was contagious! Pictured is Marie, whose beautiful voice was featured on “You Are My Sunshine.” Look for the Abilities Choir to share the joy of the holidays at Rossi’s Festival of Trees, in Washington, on December 6.
