It must be Spring! Calves and kids are sprouting up all over the place.
An impromptu visit to Country Fresh Farms resulted in some splendidly dirty sneakers licked by a pig and some adorably cute photos.
Co-owner Shari Bylicki first introduced the magnificent Peppa, a potbellied pig. She came to Country Fresh as a rescue at only seven months old. Now at 1-1/2 years old, she’s something of an official greeter. She walks the farm, charming visitors with her friendly disposition and elegant beauty.
Next was entry into the goats’ domain. Bylicki cares for several Nigerian-mix goats, all of whom were rescued. Between the end of January and into February, four sets of twins were born, and she was pleased to report that every nanny took very good care of her kids. They move with as much upward motion as forward motion, as the exuberant young ‘uns tend to do. But best of all, those faces!
In addition, there are horses and cows and a couple more pigs to admire. Shari raised the cows and pigs herself, the horses are rescues. There’s quite an irresistible menagerie at Country Fresh Farms.
Visitors can purchase baggies of feed to give the animals. They are also welcome to bring their own carrots or apples, but those must be approved prior to feeding the animals.
In the front field sits a huge wooden train. It doesn’t move, but it sure is fun! Just ask Peppa (who lays in it) and the goats (who play in it) – 100% kid-approved!
Country Fresh Farms officially opens for the season on April 1. Currently, they’re stocked with beautiful spring pansies and tulips and more, along with assorted gifts and decorative items. Summer plants will be available soon. Look for fresh produce beginning around Memorial Day. They also carry fresh eggs, fresh milk (with the cream on top!), and pies.
Not only that, but Shari and her animal friends host birthday parties too.
Country Fresh Farms is located at 70 W. Asbury-Anderson Road in Washington Township. Hours of operation are 9am to 6pm every day. For more information call 908-537-9009 or visit www.countryfreshfarms.net.
