November brings fall sports playoffs. It also usually brings championship glory to the Warren Hills field hockey program.
Continuing their winning tradition and bringing their record to 17-3 on the current season, the Streaks (ranked sixth in the state, all groups, by nj.com) reached the North Group 3 championship game with a 5-1 win over Middletown South in the semi finals.
Sarah Salameh scored three times to lead Warren Hills. Maddie Moreno contributed a goal and assist to the winning cause.
Warren Hills will face a familiar Skyland Conference rival, the North Hunterdon Lions, in today’s afternoon championship showdown at the Lions’ home field on Route 31 South in Annandale.

Just like the Houston Astros, avenging their 1980 post-season playoff loss to the Phillies with a World Series win 42 baseball seasons later, the West Morris Wolfpack avenged their 2000 football playoff championship loss to Warren Hills 22 years later, with a resounding win over the Streaks on Friday night.
With one of the strongest teams and biggest stars in school history, the undefeated Wolfpack walloped Warren Hills in Long Valley leaving no doubt by a 49-15 score in the semifinals.
A week earlier, despite this being the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac, West Morris haunted Hackettstown 42-7 in the North Group 3 quarterfinal on October 28.
Seeking their ninth sectional title, the Pack will host West Essex in the section final on Friday night. This is the 31st season West Morris has made the playoffs in football and their 13th appearance in a section final.
Many area football fans remember Mike Burton, who set a Wolfpack school record in the section champion season of 2009 by scoring 51 rushing touchdowns. He went on to play for Rutgers University and is now in the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs.
That school record has now been topped by Stefano Montella, who dashed into the end zone five times against a good Warren Hills defense to reach an amazing total of 53. Also, Montella has garnered over 2,000 rushing yards this year, behind a well schooled offensive line in the Pack’s Wing-T system. The strength of the wolf is in the pack.
