Two Warren Community College graduates were recently inducted into the prestigious New Jersey Collegiate Business Administration Association’s Honor Society.
Helen Barrera and Sarah Wilchuck are among only one percent of business students throughout New Jersey who were able to attain the accomplishment. The NJCBAA established the honor society in 2003 for students studying business at both two and four-year colleges in New Jersey. Students were selected in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements as rising young business professionals.
The induction ceremony was held via zoom in May.
“The NJCBAA Honor Society represents the top one percent of all business students from ALL colleges and universities in New Jersey,” emphasized John Peppas, Business Area Chair at Warren. “It is truly an honor to have Helen and Sarah represent Warren Community College in the 2022 class.”
Both earned Associate in Science degrees in Business Administration at Warren. Both were unaware of the organization before being notified that they’d been selected.
“I had not ever heard about NJCBAA before,” admitted Barrera, originally from Peru but now living in Phillipsburg. “However, since I decided to start college, my goal has been to be an excellent student because I think that studying is the basis of success in this competitive market. I want to contribute my knowledge and dedication to making a better world for us and future generations. I feel very valued and grateful. This recognition makes me feel that I can achieve my dreams if I stay dedicated, responsible, and focused on my goals. My most important goals are to be a successful businesswoman and an excellent role model for my kids.”
“I honestly did not know about this honor society before being inducted, but I am so glad to have been inducted!” said Wilchuck, a Phillipsburg resident who formerly lived in Hackettstown. “I am very proud to be a part of the NJCBAA and am thankful to be recognized for my achievements.”
After a short break following graduation Barrera was ready to hit the books again, at Rutgers University, in late May.
“I will pursue my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Corporate Finance,” she said. “At the end of my Junior year, I will apply to get my MBA (it is a dual program at Rutgers); therefore, If I am admitted during my senior year, I will be able to take some MBA classes simultaneously. After getting my bachelor’s degree, I will study for just one more year to get my MBA. I would like to work in a multinational company and have the opportunity to develop my knowledge and skills. I am eager to learn, and the best way to be successful is by studying! No matter what happens, life has ups and downs, but we must never leave unfinished what we have started. The key to success is perseverance, dedication, and commitment to fulfilling your goals. Our future is drawn by ourselves and also our happiness depends on ourselves because our life is what we choose!”
Wilchuck also has goals for the future, and is planning “on continuing my career in management and to receive my Bachelor’s degree in the near future.”
