When it comes to reflecting on the history of the Great American West, the stoic image of the American cowboy riding through the land comes to mind. Celebrate the history of the great American Cowboy when Cowboy Larry and his Wild, Wild West Show returns to Wild West City in Byram Township, just minutes from Warren County, on Saturday, July 24, for the National Day of the Cowboy.
Becoming a cowboy (or cowgirl) for the day at Wild West City is a long-standing rite-of-passage for young ones around the tri-state area, but for sure “Cowboy Larry” Zwickel is the real deal. A national award-winning whip artist, he is also passionate about roping. His roping demonstrations and lessons have audience members roping like pros “lickety-split.” Aligning with Wild West City’s own values, Cowboy Larry intertwines entertainment with education, leaving visitors with new skills and knowledge about frontier life.
This year marks the 14th Annual National Day of the Cowboy at Wild West City, a day designed to preserve America’s Cowboy heritage through education, the arts, celebrations, rodeos, and community activities. In addition to Larry’s performances during the day, renowned author James Griffin will be at Wild West City signing his newly released children’s books.
Of course, there’s always plenty to do at Wild West City! With live action shows and demonstrations from period craftsmen, folks have an opportunity to experience the life of the cowboy. Pan for Gold like a real miner, see animals you would find on a typical frontier farm at the Barnyard, watch Wanted Posters be made at the print shop and take one home as a souvenir! Take this extraordinary opportunity to meet with the cowboys of Wild West City and recognize the stoic hero of the Wild West.
