Habitat For Humanity Unveils New Community Center

They say it takes a village to accomplish big things. Habitat for Humanity of Warren County has accomplished many big things since 1999, building many houses for those in need, as well as other initiatives such as services to elderly, low-income and disabled persons in the community through its Hope in the Hills program.

On April 6, with the help and commitment of numerous supporters and volunteers, Habitat for Humanity unveiled perhaps its biggest thank you to the community with the unveiling of a gorgeous community center. Located in the former Grange Hall at 31 Belvidere Avenue, over the past two years workers transformed the once dilapidated back portion of the building into a state-of-the-art welcoming space that the public can take advantage of for events and meetings.

The organization states that the goal of the community center is to provide “A Place of Purpose Where the Community Gathers Together to Learn, Grow and Thrive.”

In the grand opening program Ben Eskow, Executive Director of WCHFH, below, pointed out that there were many sponsors that played important roles to make the project happen, including T-Mobile, Atlantic Health, Visions Federal Credit Union and Investors Bank. But he also made note of the volunteers, in particular Chris Motzenbecker, who designed the space and was the Construction Supervisor.

Several board members, including President Donna Detrick and Vice President Kathy Halpin, offered their thoughts on the new building as an SRO crowd filled the main room for the opening ceremony.

Habitat for Humanity, an international organization, is a volunteer-driven non-profit, ecumenical Christian Housing ministry.
